During our recent trip to New York we visited the Museum of Natural History. We got to see some really cool dinosaur skeletons. Allie thought they were pretty cool, so I thought I’d see if I could recreate one in pancake form.

Here’s what I started with (I made all the shapes first then put them together with pancake batter):
And here’s Allie with the finished product…she saying “RAAAARRRRRRRRARARRRR!!!!”

I want one ;O
You’re officially my hero!
how incredible that you do this for your daughter. It’s so touching and really impressive!
Joseph Campbell went to the Natural History Museum in NY as a boy, and he says that inspired him to pursue his mythic anthropology… and now that same museum has inspired this incredible piece of dinosaur pancake art! I’m in awe of your awesome skills and vision!
That is mindblowing.
You should have an exhibit somewhere. Like the Museum of Awesome Food. Is there a Museum of Awesome Food? If there is, you should totally be a part of it.
That’s amazing!!
Awesome! The best pancake yet – for me
Very cool!
I hope they show this on CBS this morning, your dedication to this hobby is astounding.
Wow, cool!
Prehistorically delicious!
Wanna stop by and make a waggon fulla pamcakes for my daughter’s second birthday?
If she likes rawring, you should read DINOSAUR VS BEDTIME together… best dinosaur roaring book ever.
How did you make the pancakes stay still long enough? Mine would have been bendy and flopped. I’m impressed!
Yeah, I tried making Micky Mouse and heart pancakes once. It didn’t go so well…your creations are amazing!
You brought a tear to my eye and a smile to my face. My Dad used to draw unicorns on my lunch bags in the morning. Though he really couldn’t draw very well, I still loved them. He’s no longer with me but I’ll always remember the things he did for me to show me he cared. Keep rocking the pancakes for Allie and give her a hug for those of us missing our Dads.
Hi
great stuff!
do you cook a round pancake and then cut out shapes? how could you pour liquid batter into shapes otherwise?
You are such a cool dad!
OMG how cool
How in the world did you get that to stand up? At any rate, very cool.
Are you married?? guys like you come along once in a great while.
You’re pretty much the best dad ever.
What an awesome idea! How on earth do you get floppy pancakes to stand up straight, though?
WOW, You are SO Freakin’ Creative! I LOVE IT! LOVE LOVE LOVE LOVE IT!
These are do amazing! Do any of you know if he has a post among all these saying how he does the shapes? I’d love to try something simple for my nephews and nieces.
Awesomely creative! Never saw this before!
This is ridiculously amazing. Please keep up the good work. I’m having an awesome breakfast vicariously through you.
I found out about your blog through The Daily What. What a fun blog you have! I will be a loyal follower now!
Now that is a breakfast with bite!
This is amazing! You’re pretty friggin’ awesome to do this for your daughter.
Did you abandon your Youtube page? I’ve been looking forward to videos.
Maybe not as impressive as my full scale 3D Jay Leno pancake, but still not bad.
Way cool!
You are such a cute dad. Allie doesn’t know what an amazing dad she has and won’t realize it until much later. You are an inspiration.

These are all great! Thanks for sharing!
Nice! When does the pancake mold for this one come out?
Awww, you are one true creative dad.
My six-year-old daughter would love these!
Princess is going to want me to make her some of these – she LOVES dinosaurs! What in the world did you use to make the shapes for the pancake batter? Desperate mom’s want to know…
That is beyond amazing!! You are so talented!
you’re seriously the coolest dad EVER.
A couple of us are wondering how you get the precise shapes? Hand cutting? cooking cutter type cutting? Cutting when almost done, letting edges seal in final cooking? Standard batter/recipe? If you’ve answered these questions before, maybe you can guide us to where. Don’t want to make this fun work for you but we’d like to have your fun, too, as well as to enjoy what you do. Thanks.- Seraph and Tom
Just did a shout out to you on my dinosaur blog! Good job Jim! I just wanted to know how it tasted?
You make THE COOLEST pancakes! My daughters and I sat and looked through your blog and laughed so hard! Clever and fun! Thanks for the entertainment! Now my daughters want me to make cool pancakes like you, but I am sad to say it is all I can do to pull off a simple Mickey Mouse… or even just not to burn them. Sometimes I forget to flip them until they are really far gone because I am distractable, so kudos to you! You made my day today!
All he needs is a puddle of maple syrup! This is so cool.
You are awesome dude. This is a talent!
This is amazing! I have forbidden my husband from showing my 4 year old son though since his two favorite things in the world are pancakes and dinosaurs and I’m sure mine would never come out as great. This is terrific.
This is fantastic.
Your creative and heartfelt efforts to make your little girl smile have made my day. Not to mention you’ve combined two of my favorite things-breakfast and dinosaurs. Keep it up!
Not only are you the coolest dad EVER, you’re adorable, too!
Marry me
What kind of example are you setting for your kids? Didn’t your parents tell you not to play with your food?
